Abstract |
Background The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of dietary education, dietary compliance, knowledge about dietary treatment for diabetic control. Therefore, we performed a randomized prospective study to compare the effects of three different teaching methods for diet control. Methods: Three different groups were selected for the comparison. While one control group was not given any dietary education, the other two groups were given variable dietary educations: group 1 with teaching combined with buffet and group 2 with teaching only. Fifty respondents respectively were assigned to each groups. The effectiveness of different approaches was examined using attitude, knowledge, compliance behavior, and blood test results. Results: First, the difference between three groups in attitude was statistically significant. The group 1 rated more positively in the effectiveness of diet than the other groups. Second, the group 1 showed higher level of knowledge compared to others. Third, the group 1 complied more strongly with the dietary principle than the others. Fourth, the group 1 showed lower level of blood glucose than the others. Conclusion: Dietary education including buffet showed much better results than the other groups. We need to develop comprehensive programs about dietary education for strict glycemic control in the diabetic patients. |
